Juliet Percival

Juliet Percival is an award-winning freelance illustrator with 7 years practice.

An interest in the human body originally steered her into a Physiology Degree at Edinburgh University which she followed by an Illustration Degree at Falmouth Art College.

Her aim is to add a creative and personal element to the cold and clinical world of science, in order to convey the body's beauty and aesthetic value to the general public.

Her specialities range from detailed highly realistic watercolours to a much looser drawing style where she uses a simple but expressive and fluent line to give her subject matter an individual and personal feel. She has illustrated popular science/health/medical reference books and editorials, hospital patient information leaflets, medical conference brochures, and worked with Gunther von Hagens on his Anatomy series for Channel Four television.

Working out of her studio in Fowlers Yard for publishing clients in London and abroad, she is also commissioned to produce local sketches and imagery for bespoke gifts and stationary.

Anja Percival

Anja Percival is a full time self-employed printmaker, who has successfully run her own business since 2002. The majority of her work combines collagraph and etching techniques to build up multilayered imagery with rich, textural surfaces. Her prints utilise both representational and abstract elements, to produce images that portray her experience of the landscape. Her compositions aim to combine different moods of light, with contrasting space and surface qualities. Anja’s work is a personal portrait of our landscape, drawing upon her favourite elements from our rich visual existence.

She has recently returned from an extended artist’s residency in Denmark and now prints from the studio that she shares with her sister Juliet in Fowlers Yard. She is also a member of Northern Print in Newcastle, where she creates her etching plates. Frequently the term ’printmaking’ is misunderstood and confused with ’printing’, therefore it’s not always obvious that a print taken from an etching plate is a handmade artwork rather than a photographic reproduction. Anja is keen to clarify this; to inform and demonstrate to the public, and share with others what she does.

Anja exhibits her work locally, nationally and internationally.
